Honey, Sesame, Garlic Beef
A beef casserole to warm the soul!
For 4 people. I cook this in a cook top to oven to table lidded heavy bottomed casserole dish but it can be cooked on the stovetop with a lidded frypan/pan.
First of all, dry roast 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds and blitz to a powder if you have a spice grinder; crush in a pestle and mortar or can be used whole.
On a moderate heat cook off in 2/3 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 medium onions (peeled and thinly sliced together with 2 cloves of crushed garlic until soft and translucent. add the ground sesame seeds followed by 3 tablespoons if Soy Sauce 3/4 cup of warm water. Stir and reduce for 5 minutes on bubbling heat
Add 400gms of diced Beef (oyster, blade, chick or stewing) and 1 tablespoon of honey. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes, coating the beef well. Place lid on casserole and then in a preheated low 160c oven for 30 minutes.
Stir well, the oil from the sesame seeds will have floated to the top, and as an option add about 150gms of button mushrooms, stir through and return to the oven for another 15 minutes.
Clearly the quality and tenderness of your beef will determine when ready. Ideal with Basmati Rice
